Orange Shirt Day/ National Day for Truth and Reconciliation provides an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools. More than 150,000 First Nations, Metis, and Inuit children attended these mandatory schools between the 1870’s and late 1990’s.

The Beyond Orange Shirt Day Collaborative Community provides an opportunity for educators across the province to come together in discussion, share resources, and build common understandings throughout the year in recognition of the spirit that true reconciliation requires on-going learning and action.

Through this collaborative community, participants will:

  • Deepen understanding of residential schools and their legacy.
  • Strengthen capacity to embed Indigenous perspectives into classroom practice.
  • Support student achievement by engaging in collaborative and whole-school approaches to building capacity in First Nations, Metis, and Inuit education.
  • Support the success of Indigenous learners.
