TARGET AUDIENCE: K-12 TEACHERS, INDIGENOUS LEADS, COACHES, INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERS AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
This series was developed to support instructional leadership related to Indigenous foundational knowledge and its application within classrooms and the larger school community.
During the course of the five consecutive weekly gatherings, this community will engage in small group collaborative conversations with colleagues across the province, informed by guest speakers from Indigenous communities including Charlene & Wilson Bearhead, Bruce Starlight, Valentina Fox, and Dr. Yvonne Poitras-Pratt and other respected elders and knowledge keepers. Donna Ross, consultant with the Calgary Regional Consortium, will facilitate our time together as we work through the seven essential conditions for implementation while considering key concepts from the Alberta Education resource, Guiding Voices, including:
- Ancestors Time and Place
- Experiences and World Views
- Relationships
- Language, Culture, Identity and Voice
As a result of this series, school leaders will:
- Collaborate with leaders across the province to explore instructional leadership principles as they apply to Indigenous foundational knowledge and its application within classrooms and the larger school community
- Grow their leadership knowledge and skills to support teachers in designing meaningful learning that honours the process of reconciliation.
- Apply the Guide to Support Implementation: Essential Conditions resource to create, implement, share and reflect on plans that provide tools and opportunities for staff to support their awareness, understanding and application of Indigenous foundational knowledge
