Share and learn about best practices for supporting English Language Learners in the inclusive classroom. Susan Somerville and Jane Gallacher will take the lead in our ELL Collaborative Community this year. This Collaborative Community is for classroom teachers (Grades 1 - 9) as well as ELL leaders in search of ways to support and engage their students and staff.

Nov 19, 2019: Foundational Practices

Join us and work with other Calgary and area educators to deepen your understanding on ways to support ELLs by exploring:

  • principles of second language acquisition
  • the importance of using classroom assessment practices to inform the benchmarks
  • the use of Alberta Education Benchmarks/ “I Can” resources to guide teaching practice
  • general strategies to differentiate instruction across proficiency levels/subject areas

March 3, 2020: Practical Implementation

Join us and work with other Calgary and area educators to further your understanding on ways to support ELLs by:

  • making content accessible through comprehensible input
  • enhancing lessons/units with language goals and intentional planning
  • incorporating technology into core subject areas
  • using powerful strategies to differentiate instruction across proficiency levels/subject areas
