AUDIENCE: GRADES 5-12 EDUCATORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.

Who do we want to stand in line with at the grocery store?  What kind of people do we want to share the workplace with?  How do we nurture students to become informed citizens who positively contribute to society?  We have to go bigger than the provincial exams and we do this by giving learners opportunities to engage in purposeful reading, writing, and critical thinking.

During this daylong workshop, Cris Tovani will share ways to increase student engagement so that kids get to work at least as hard as their teachers.  The day will focus on critical thinking and how educators can provide authentic audiences and purposes to give students a reason to read, write, and discuss. Participants will investigate current research to support their instructional practices.  They will “have a go” at doing some writing, and they will exam different tools to structure the day so that students get more time to read, write and think.

This learning opportunity is being offered as a cost recovery program.
