Literacy Across Alberta – An Opportunity for Jurisdiction “Literacy” Leaders to Discuss Best Practices

You are invited to attend “Numeracy Across Alberta”, an opportunity for jurisdiction “Numeracy” instructional leaders to share ideas, learn from each other, and build a collaborative network to support their work within their specific school jurisdictions. The day will follow an “ED-Camp” format with several topics identified prior to the day and an opportunity to suggest ideas for a final topic.

The day provide an opportunity for participants to discuss a variety of topics identified in Mid-May. These topics will focus on suggestions from those individuals that are registering to attend. We would encourage you to register early and provide your ideas about topics you would like to see the day focus on.

          9:00am – Welcome and Introductions
          9:15 to 10:30 – Topic 1
          10:30 to 10:45 - Wellness Break
          10:45 to 12:00 – Topic 2
          12:00 to 12:45 – Lunch
          12:45 to 2:00 – Topic 3
          2:00 to 2:15 – Wellness Break
          2:15 to 3:00 – Topic 4
          3:00 to 3:30 – Regional Discussions and Wrap Up

Please extend this invitation to other Numeracy Leads in neighbouring jurisdictions in case we missed them on our mail out.

Last year 19 school jurisdictions came together and focused their discussion on:

  • Building Teacher and Administrator Capacity – Professional Learning
  • Adolescent Numeracy: Assessment, Intervention, Numeracy in Discipline Areas, Resources
  • Elementary Numeracy: Assessment and Interventions
  • Open Space Topics – Summer Slide / Early Numeracy / Workshop Model / English Language Learners

An invitation will also be extended to several publishers and representatives from Alberta Education to be in attendance.
