TARGET AUDIENCE: PARENTS, CAREGIVERS (AND TEACHERS) OF CHILDREN PRE-SCHOOL TO GRADE 3 ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND

The focus of this three night series is on things you can do at home to help build your child’s (ren’s) confidence, ability, knowledge and skills for both learning and “doing” math. The sessions are set up over 3 nights so that you can take materials home, try them out, then come back and talk about what went wrong, what went right, what to do next. These are brief focused tasks and activities that focus on building the foundations for fluently and accurately solving addition and subtraction problems with numbers to 10, then to 100. (in your head!)

Parents and teachers who participated last year told us they also:

  • Learned or relearned some basic mathematics in a way that surprised them with its simplicity and COMMON SENSE.

  • Recognized that they did not understand much of the math they learned in school and therefore felt unable to help when their child(ren) had difficulty.

  • Learned that mathematics is not JUST about memorizing facts and formulas but is actually also about learning how to diagram and puzzle and think your way through things. Once you understand how numbers and number operations are connected you can teach yourself and your child to perform all kinds of calculations in your head and know you are correct.

You may sign up for just one night, however, the materials are designed to allow you to progress through a set of concepts with your child (ren) at home.  If you take the time to practice ten minutes a day with your child(ren) between each session, you will see their attitude and ability change.
